Interview with HB2 Cathy Sorbara

I met Cathy Sorbara when I joined the Cheeky Scientist Association, a worldwide organization that trains PhDs to successfully transition into industry. She has been a huge inspiration for me since. I met her in person in Cambridge during one of my trips to the UK in 2016, and we’ve been great friends and colleagues.

Coming originally from Canada, Cathy did her PhD in Germany in the field of neurosciences, and moved to Cambridge as a publishing editor. She has been the chair of the Cambridge Association for Women in Science and Engineering (AWiSE) for 2 years, and the COO of Cheeky Scientist for 4 years.

In 2017, she applied to Homeward Bound and was selected as one of the 80 women who took part of HB2. In this interview, she shares her story with Homeward Bound including her reasons to apply, her struggles with the imposter syndrome, the year-long Homeward Bound experience, the journey to Antarctica, and her takeaways and current projects.
