In 2018, 227 women applied to the Homeward Bound program and 95 women selected. There are still 5 places being reserved for scholarships if funding becomes available.
This how we reacted when we knew that we have been selected:
The 95 women selected to date for the fourth Homeward Bound Program all have a background (that is, a degree qualification, or equivalent) in science, technology, engineering, mathematics or medicine (STEMM). They come from all over the globe (33 countries represented), cover a broad range of professions, occupations and career levels, and were selected based on their potential to have an impact on decision making as it relates to the state of the planet.
Meet all HB4 participants and learn about the backgrounds and life stories.
Pathways and mechanisms for having impact form a core part of program content and discussions, and the ongoing intention of Homeward Bound is to develop a 1000-strong network of women with backgrounds in STEMM who can support each other in creating change. The aim is to have 100 participants in this cohort – Homeward Bound is holding five positions free for now, in the event that we are able to raise/attract scholarship funding to be able to invite women from countries most affected by climate change, who have the most potential to make a difference through their participation in this program, and who are unable to raise the funds to cover program fees.
HB4’s online program started in November 2018 and will conclude in November 2019 in Antarctica. By May, we had 7 monthly calls with the whole cohort and faculty, regular triad meetings to create discussions within small groups, started our 100-day visibility challenge, been having monthly brainfood releases followed my discussions, and took the Life Styles Inventory (LSI) assessment and started leadership-oriented coaching session in May. We also independently started a book club to read and discuss relevant materials such as leadership and climate change readings.
This is how our monthly calls look like.
You can have a look through the alumnae bios to read more about those who have been in the program previously. For example, Susan Scott was part of a team who was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2017 for their discovery of gravitational waves.
You can apply too!
