This chapter of my life started 3 months before I actually started my long-term travel. After going to Birmingham, UK, for my third EMWA conference, I’ve decided to spend a few days in Prague, and that’s when I met Daniel.
I’ve only met Daniel once, but that meeting changed the course of my life. When we met, he told me that he was taking part of a program called Remote Year during which he will be traveling for 1 year and living in 12 different cities around the world while working remotely for his company in the US. I still remember my exact words at that time (with completely dazzled eyes) “I wish I could do the same.”
You know the saying “be careful with what you wish for because it might come true”? Well, it did come true. The very next day I received a job offer as a full-time scientific editor at SelfHacked, which allowed me to work remotely while doing what I love. Believe it or nor not, my words became my reality.
At that time I wasn’t even aware how much my life was about to change. I first accepted the job and started working either from my apartment or from Cespedes, a coworking space in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Suddenly everything started to fall into place. I’ve always wanted to spend more time in Prague, it was summer in Europe at that time, and I had no strings attached in Argentina.
Then, I also started thinking about all the places that I’ve always wanted to visit and even live in for some time. So I rented my place, put all my life in a storage room, and booked a one-way ticket to Prague, the heart of Europe.
In my upcoming posts, I will be sharing in more detail each of the experiences that led me to where I am today. For now, I can just say that this is how I became a digital nomad and a traveler scientist. This was the beginning of this chapter of my life.
Love,
Jenia
